RESEARCH STUDIES
The Cochrane Collaboration is an international, non-profit, independent organization, was established in 1993 and named after the British epidemiologist Archie Cochrane (1909-1988). The mission of the Collaboration is to ensure that up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare interventions is readily available worldwide. To that end, the Collaboration develops and maintains a register of the world’s high quality research evidence and produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions. The United States Cochrane Center (USCC), located in Baltimore, MD, is one of 12 Cochrane Centers around the world. Cochrane Centers are the main contact points for the public and facilitate, in a variety of ways, the work of the Collaboration. Cochrane Centers provide support, such as education and training, to the Cochrane entities - Cochrane Review Groups, Methods Groups, Fields, and the Consumer Network - and promotes the objectives of the Collaboration at the regional level. New entities considering registering with the Cochrane Collaboration and individuals who seek information about the Collaboration also work with Cochrane Centers.
